More on My Approach to Counselling

My approach to counselling is grounded in a person-centred and trauma-informed philosophy, where I prioritize safety, respect, and collaboration. I believe that healing occurs within a strong therapeutic relationship, built on empathy, authenticity, and trust. You are the expert on your own experiences, and my role is to walk alongside you, offering support, curiosity, and professional guidance.

I work collaboratively, tailoring therapy to your unique needs, goals, and pace. I draw from a range of evidence-based modalities, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and narrative therapy, helping clients explore unhelpful patterns, reframe personal stories, and develop greater insight and agency. Where appropriate, I also use experiential techniques, such as role play and guided exercises, to support deeper emotional processing and practical skill development.

My work is informed by existential perspectives, recognizing the importance of meaning, choice, responsibility, and identity in human experience. I integrate mindfulness-based practices to support awareness, grounding, and emotional regulation, particularly when working with stress, anxiety, or trauma-related concerns.

I have experience in crisis management and supporting individuals during periods of acute distress. I approach these moments with calmness, care, and a focus on stabilization, safety, and empowerment.

Above all, I aim to create a therapeutic space that is compassionate, non-judgmental, and collaborative—one where you feel heard, understood, and supported as you work toward greater clarity, resilience, and wellbeing.

More about me

I bring a multidisciplinary, client-centred background in counselling, advocacy, and frontline support that informs my path toward a career as a clinical counsellor.

I hold a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology, a Master of Arts in Dispute Resolution, and a Bachelor of Arts in Indigenous Studies. My professional experience includes roles as an employment counsellor and Team Lead with WorkBC, a withdrawal management counsellor, a child and youth care worker, an outreach worker supporting unhoused individuals and people with diverse abilities, and a post-secondary advisor and advocate within Indigenous organizations.

Across these roles, I have supported individuals facing complex psychosocial challenges through culturally responsive, trauma-informed, strengths-based, and harm-reduction approaches, while collaborating with interdisciplinary teams. These combined educational and professional experiences shape my commitment to ethical, compassionate, and socially responsive clinical counselling practice.
